The United States Virgin Islands, often named US Virgin Islands or USVI, is a tropical getaway in the Caribbean, one of few on American soil. You will find the pretty white beaches and sapphire seas that make you feel like in paradise, but it is also a destination known for its western high standards such as a clean environment, safe food and strict regulation and protection of its underwater biosphere. Its climate is excellent year-round with the months June to November as exceptions since they are within the hurricane season.
The three main islands on the United States Virgin Islands are St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix. Saint Thomas is with the historic capital of Charlotte Amelie the most populous island and gateway to the USVI. Highlights include the in green mountains surrounded cruise ship harbor, the white beaches at Magen's Bay and the many wreck dives near Saba Island. In the east you will the picturesque place Red Hook with well known beach areas such as Coki Point and Sapphire Bay. Separated by Pillsbury Sound you can enter Cruz Bay, Saint John; a quiet island with more than half protected by the Virgin Islands National Park. Saint Croix is the large island in the south known for its Danish history resembling in towns such as Christansted and Frederiksted. One of the best dive destinations is Buck Island Reef National Monument, a small green island known for its superb snorkeling, diving and hatching turtles.
Although the islands offer enough for bird enthusiasts and hikers, most tourist enter these tropical islands for its fantastic white beaches, in palm trees fringed shores and diverse rich underwater world. Scuba divers are treated with some of the most spectacular wreck dives in the world, there are steep wall dives on the north site of St Croix and the cays between St. Thomas and St. Croix inside Pillsbury Sound are known for its excellent snorkeling. There are whale watching tours, turtle hatcheries, huge coral formations and plenty of pelagic species including sharks.
